    Learning to fly

Well guys,Lindsay and I are going to learn how to fly. 8O 8O 8O 8O
    Today we got our new planes,mine is a PC9,Lindsays is a Spitfire. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Not "real" planes but "combat slope gliders" from New Zealand.4ft wingspan, suitable for aerobatics/combat fighting. They are virtually indestructible, and when you get good enough the "combat" is trying to knock your oponents plane out of the sky.
We saw a couple of these in action when we went to Albany, great stuff,we had to get one each.
Craig and Jamo, they will be coming to Esperance,I wouldnt mind betting they will suck you in!!!!
Anybody else into this sort of thing????
    Have a look at http://www.canterburysailplanes.co.n...php/slope.html
Will post pics when we build the kits.

I used to fly control line planes some years ago, we combat flew as well, the object to cut the streamer off your opponents tail.
As much as I would like to fly model planes again I have a big handicap...............TIME.

Mate... done hundreds of hours of it... + powered flying. I have a few of these new epp planes and they are great fun. You need to be combating them though... or I get bored

I'll be taking mine on the GCLROC fraser trip, and we're taking them back again in may for a boys week with my mates flying these things in May

Have a look at the dynamic soaring videos on this site... what a hoot

I used to fly RC planes and helis but haven't flown for yonks.

Actually, I was flying RC planes (power and sailplanes) and helis, flying control line planes, racing model boats (Club 35 and 40 class multi-racing and 40 class Naviga), sailing model yachts, and racing 1/12th scale RC road (not off-road) cars at the same model club here in Sydney (Sydney Society of Model Engineers) - and you thought 4WDing was expensive.

I used to write a column in one of the an Australian RC model mags.

I used to fly pattern RC (Wolfgang Matt's Atlas and Hanno Prettner's Curare) with piped 60's up front years ago and at numerous clubs. I also had a dabble at pylon racing and even met (for those that know him) Ranjit Phelan. Geez could that guy build a motor and fly a fast racing machine...

I always wanted to get back into RC, and with hills like we have on Omaroo, slope soaring could be the go.

Here's the view from the top to the property down on the other side of the hill. A big enough slope? The thermals are crazy...

Ron - When were you flying? I started at Belrose (WRCS) in about 1976 and was taught by John Piggot. I also ran offroad buggies (and co-started the club on Delhi Road, Chatswood) as well as tunnel hulls (K&B 7.5) on Lake Burley Griffin with Ron Haylen. Fun!! I miss it.

I flew from 1958 until 1988 (I went to Saudia Arabia in Jan 1989 then Norfolk Island in Jan 1990 so I sort of dropped out of modelling.

But I was most active in the SSME from mid-late70s to mid-80s. I helped form the Penrith Model Helicopter Club 'cos we chopper flyers weren't popular at the SSME.

Tunnel hulls weren't my cup of tea, I liked boats that would turn left and right, e.g. FSR-V multiboat racing and also Naviga M boats that are designed to turn extremely sharply around a course set up with 3 buoys - see http://www.naviga.org/M_Beschreibung.htm

I was never into pylon racing although I met Ranjit a few times at a friend's place (Des Plane). Des was into pylon racing.

I've never flown at Delhi Rd nor Belrose - too far from Penrith.
