    Just Joined - Hello

    Hi Everyone,

    Just joined and I am looking forward to learning a lot about Land Rover and 4WD in general. My wife and I have decided to buy a new Discovery 5 HSE TDV6 and I am optimistic that we have made the right decision. Although the variety and number of issues others have written about on various web sites does make me wonder?

    But, being an optimist, it should be fun!

    My car is actually being built TODAY [according to Barbagallo's here in Perth] so we will see if it's a lemon or not in about 2 months when it rolls off the ship in Fremantle Harbour.

    The first thing I am going to start searching for (and open to advice and experience of others) is about tyres. Unfortunately the HSE comes with 20" rims standard and can only even fit 19" due to the brake callipers (afaik) ... Land Rover apparently recommend Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tyres for All Terrain, but the only profile that I can find in Perth is 275/55 20. Has anyone else fitted new / bigger / All Terrain tyres to a Disco 5?
    I am thinking someone must have as the standard tyres are good for bitumen; not so much off road. Please share if you will or direct me to a blog about this topic.

    Another brand for A/T tyres recommended to me by a friend who has had eight LandCruisers is BF Goodrich, which I can also get in the same 275/55 20 profile.

    Anyway, that's probably enough from me for starters. I look forward to reading and searching for the posts from others as I begin this journey of Discovery. {sorry about that}

    regards,

    Quokkablue

    LR will soon release, if not already done, a version of the D5 fitted with 275/55R20 Duratracs and this size is already popular for D5 off-road use.

    Pirelli have recently released their All Terrain Plus, a replacement for their ATR which will be available in Australia around Aug/Sept in P275/55R20 LI 114. The pattern and characteristics look to be useful.

    Thanks Graeme; I will see if I can get the Duratrac tyres on before delivery, without paying a crazy amount for the pleasure! 👍
