Your comment about suicide attempts reminds me of many of the motorcyclists I have encountered in Tassie. So many of them seem to be convinced that it is compulsory to get the tacho up to the red line in every gear as they accelerate around some of Tasmania's notoriously narrow, windy roads.

The one that worried me most was the one who came towards me as I was going around a left hand bend. His tyres were on his side of the road, but only just and his head and shoulders were well and truly on my side of the road. If I had been close to the centreline things would have been quite unpleasant.

I found in Tassie that the locals treated double lines as purely advisory, which could sometimes be rather alarming!

Personally I hate the "Free Camp" ethos . Dirty stincky facilities , rubbish strewn about , not for us.
If Im within 50km of a town I push on & stay at a Caravan Park to support the local economy.

If we are pulling up stumps more than 50km from a town we have a "Camps 7" book, Refer to it so that we know where NOT to camp . I camp discreetly & out of sight , for fear of some ****** coming & setting up next to us.

Much the same for us.......although the colour that my bride picked when we re sprayed the defer makes it harder to hide.

Ditto, there are some camps we avoid, but in Tas most are empty in the off season.

We have had our first few "Tourons" (Combination Tourist/Moron) through for the season.
And although we call them, privately, the above I/we quite like them.
Even if they only buy an Ice Cream & a bit of fuel that's a few dollars we wouldn't have got otherwise, & when they really start coming through in June we do pretty well out of them.
Yes, they are a bit of a pain driving slow or, in the case of "Get all our fishing done in a week" crew fast on our narrow roads & quite a few of them don't have a clue about driving in the bush or respecting property owners land, but most are just doing their thing & enjoying themselves.
Most are very friendly, like a chat & will spend a little time even though we are just a stop on the road.
Some are very condescending to our Aboriginal staff which annoys me, some a plain dumb & stupid but most just want to look around & are careful not to offend anyone.
They are OK & if they spend a few dollars then that's a plus.

PS When the 4WD tour buses full of Chinese come in my staff just crack up, they recon it's worse than a shop full of flies!

I don't need an answer, I actually know the psychology behind it, but I still go WTF??
