I have been seriously guilty of speeding in the past. At thectime it felt very safe, late at night on rural big highway, but just 1 small mistake or an errant roo and i wouldnt be here.
I look back on these occasions when im tempted to let loose on the Rangies loud pedal... helps me slow down. ..

I'm glad I did all of my speeding in the 80's.
When I look back, I break out in a cold sweat thinking about how wrong it could so easily have gone on many occasions.

I’m with JC.....guilty as well. Although I could only get to $2.05 in the HQ.

Certainly don’t condone it and with two kids at home just getting their licenses I certainly promote safe driving.

Correct, in these days of speed "regulation" I certainly wouldn't do that speed, because I don't wanna loose my my license or my car, so no, I wouldn't.
But there have been times in the past, where I have, with absolute safety. In those days, the Police had to consider that I was driving dangerously, which I wasn't at the time, & my car was easily capable.
But, I'm now older, my reflexes aren't what they used to be, & the regulations say I can't, so I wouldn't,....although my car would be easily capable.
I remember, in the mid eighties, at which time I was involved with HDT, and a member of the Owners Club, bought a VKSS, had the engine modified by HDT, then further by Ian Tate, the engine was built for leisurely touring, I remember that the owner told me that He drove in the N.T. on one occasion, and he did 100MPH, FOR AN HOUR!

You must have missed the point that this took place in a 90Kmh speed zone which would indicate a semi residentual or a rural residentual area , not hard to figure out , this dude was a hoon clear and simple .

Of cause speed in the right place is ok who said it wasnt , i got my speed rocks off at Amaroo & Oran Park in Sydney when i used to race motorcycles in another life not on Public Roads .

I lived in the Territory for over 20 years it was common in 1 business that I worked for for the employees to travel from Alice to Katherine at 212 kmh for most of the way (1100 km)
Speed is not the killer our Nanny Country declares it is but 225 kmh in a 90 kmh zone he should be dealt with.
I now live in South Australia and they continually drop the speed limits on the roads because they cant afford to maintain them. I can get the Defender close to airborne on the sealed road between Gladstone and Clare not because of speed but poor road conditions.

Concept of speed and safety is strange isn’t it, travel on autobahns in Germany and you don’t blink sitting on 160+ and a taxi passes you... if only we built better roads, vehicles and drivers to match.

    Hi,
Just the thought of the kinetic energy being carried at 100 kph worries me. Leaving shiny bits on bitumen is not a situation I aspire to.
    Cheers

I used to be a Ford Area Manager in Northern Victoria in the late 70s . It was not unusual to drive at 160-180KMh in a Falcon V8 on the country roads before there were speed guns etc. If a Candy car was going in the opposite direction , they would touch the brakes think about it and keep on going. Had a few anxious moments with line astern cows on the Murray valley highway.

I have ridden in a 325i near Munich at 247 indicated with no concerns at all and on BMW bikes at 210 in Germany, with my helmet flat on my nose.

In Saudi you could get a Suburban with a 350 up over 200kmh.

I find India more dangerous at 80Kmh than outback OZ at 160Kmh. I was recently in a bus near Jaipur when a car in front did a suicide plunge under a truck. Apparently the car driver was angry at the truck for cutting him off so decided to swerve in front of the truck but miscalculated. Bits everywhere but miraculously nobody killed. You see accidents everywhere and the road toll is enormous, but few travel at much over 80kmh.

I am getting old now and value my low insurance so have not had a ticket for 25 years.

    Regards Philip A
