I didn't realise I was stirring the pot when I had my little rant. Interesting feedback on good and bad service and I think I read into it that the sub-contractors that AP use may have a significant direct influence. Obviously their own system has issues, and the artificial delaying of non-premium parcel transit has caused things to go AWOL also. I've had this happen a few times where as soon as I chased something they've suddenly found it and it has then moved on swiftly from there. But lost in the black-hole of a sorting center while they held it for a couple of days per their new operating procedure. It's a far cry from when I was a lad and the post was revered and world-class. Now it's unreliable, slow and expensive by developed-world standards. How's that for progress? Compare AP to Royal Mail or Deutsche Post (as examples) and they fall well short in every regard. Even the Yanks seem to do this better than us.

I'd be really interested to get a quote from one of the big independents (DHL, FedEx, etc) and see what it would have cost for a similar service and what the timing would be. $102 and change buys a lot of courier IMHO....

My new nanacom has just been returned, registered and insured for $80, from tassie
    now the waiting game starts
    cheers

The one from Chicago, the closest of the three is still in transit , having travelled to Miami , LA , Miami again then Quito Ecuador, back to Miami , and as of Friday somewhere in Canada customs. Who knows what will happen when I put them together for posting to either Brisbane or Melbourne?
So the well traveled finally arrived . No marks or stamps to document its journey. So now to put all together and post from Canada to Aus. Let’s see how this goes. Initial quote for air , based on weight and cubic is $200. So I will opt for surface. Hopefully on Monday the journey begins again. Wonder how this will go ?

I've found that AP service has consistently decreased over the last few years, I've had more lost or delayed packages in the last couple of years than ever before. As was mentioned earlier it is nigh on impossible to access them through their website or on the phone to make a complaint re a lost parcel.
BUT I've found out a much better way to raise a problem, as I don't do Facebook I get the missus to register a complaint on their Facebook page complete with tracking numbers etc for a parcel that was just staring on its 8th Melbourne to Sydney or vice versa, within an HOUR I had a reply and the online tracking disappeared! So put up another post and the tracking came back online and I was assured that they would chase it up. The next day an AP car and person knocked on my door in a small country town an hour from the nearest major centre with the package.
So complain on social media for a quick response!

Just got a magazine delivered to my letter box,..squashed up/ "folded" to 1/4 of its size,...not happy particularly as there is a place on our letter box where it could be just as easily rolled up & placed in there.
Not really a big drama as it was just a periodical, but it may well have been a collectable,....in either case it's now in very poor shape thanks to "Mr Postie".

At least you get deliveries. Our relatives outside Lismore only get deliveries twice a week, if then. They had to take out a post box to get a better service.

    AP are expensive and useless.

Living in Perth it not unusual to get stuff from overseas faster than from over east. DHL put AP to shame.

I'm sure that RoverLord is bribing some high up at Aust Post!
I got my service kit from him in just over a week!!
    Undamaged, unopened & as ordered.

I also received 3 X Tablets from Hardly Normal Mt Isa, took almost 3 weeks?

PS Checked the service kit parcel twice, very disappointed, no RoverLord hiding in there ready to do the service for me.
