Lumenition is an electronic ignition.
The other one - no idea... where’s the wire head to?
On a recently purchased Series 3 Stage 1 i have found two things i am not sure about see attached pictures, one is an electronic ignition system are they any good and how are they wired how do you test, second is on the inner guard and has me stumped. All help appreciated
Lumenition is an electronic ignition.
The other one - no idea... where’s the wire head to?
The electronic ignition unit was a popular item in the 80's but not particularly reliable, I had one once that broke down when an overseas auntie was aboard. Mother wasn't pleased. A D1 electronic distributor would be a much better choice.
The other could be some sort of crystal performance enhancer, another very popular item from the 80"s. I'd ditch it and its wiring ASAP.
Perhaps the car once belonged to Peter Brock..... Polariser?

Weird arse motion sensor - very pop in 80’s ! Somewhere there will be a bodgy plastic box full of problems .....
i have a car with similar witchcraft !
Thanks people now i am scared a bad electronic ignition system and a thing from the Eighties oh well you never know your luck when you buy old stuff i will trace the wire out for the motion sensor and see what happens with the ignition no spark so far guess it is stuffed.
Gippy
The luminition is basically a AFAIR optical replacement switch for points. There should be a module inside the dizzy. AFAIK they are still sold.
The thing to be aware of is that it needs a points type coil that is current limited. A High Energy coil will kill it tout suite.
Ask me how I know.

I recall a friend had lumenition in one of his landies back when I was a teenager; there was a disc with a series of gaps (one for each cylinder) that fits under the distributor rotor and makes / breaks a light beam, they were supposedly better than points but a wayward drop of oil or grease inside the dizzy will find it's way onto the light emitter or sensor and stop all the fun.
x2 for the Brock thing.
This is a Polarizer
Motoring Myths- The Brock Polarizer
Knock sensor or RPM sensor but why isn't it fixed to the engine ? Or maybe it was......
