    your own footsteps will drive you mad for a while, and a flock of cockatoos is pretty good, and you can also hear how bad your gearchanges were before.

    My father in law had a cochlear ear implant, which is brilliant after him only having 15 % hearing in one ear. It has revolutionized his life.
    Mind you, you may not want to hear some of the things that are now audible. He turns his off sometimes just to enjoy total silence, although he says his brain gurgles a lot!

    And then there was the guy who got a hearing aid and didn't tell his family. He has changed his will three times since.

    True story. A mate who had suffered hearing loss ( ex boilermaker) for decades got two expensive high tech miniature hearing aids. He said his first thoughts were "What are all those noises?" Like breeze rustling leaves, traffic noise on the main road a couple of miles away, footsteps in the neighbouring houses and so on. After a few days it was "Doesn't that woman (wife) ever shut up." He often turns them off for, as he says, a little peace and quiet.

    Another true story, I knew a person who thought they'd gone deaf in one ear, so went to the doctor, he found the cotton wool end of an ear bud that had come off while they were cleaning their ears!

    Can I ask which ones you went with? I’ve been putting off getting them due to cost, but under 2K sounds (No pun intended) a lot more reasonable. My profound deafness rules those earbuds out.
