Does this petition mention rego fees for bicycles ?
Or how about this out there idea (written as a motorist) - why can't we all learn to get along and share the roads and not make this an 'us' versus 'them' argument. I am a very laid back driver and get along fine with cyclists, give them room and be patient. Yes, there are dick cyclists out there, but during my 500KM plus per week drives around the City and 'burbs for work I've found there are far more dick motorists out there.
A little maturity from those that have signed that petition would make any percieved issue vanish IMO...

I don't have Any problems with cyclists because I hardly ever come across them.

You may want to think carefully about this. You still need to pass them with 1 to 1.5m, so move out of the lane, but in single file the length of the peloton will be twice as long making them 4x harder to pass

Having been a very keen cyclist in my long gone younger days, I try to make sure that I never come into conflict with them. I give way when possible to make it safer for them and when lucky, am rewarded with a quick wave as they turn in front or cross the road etc.
Makes it worthwhile as far as I'm concerned.
But some months back even I got a bit hot under the hat when driving up through Perth hills and there was a group of cyclists 2 abreast and the last one was a large "broad of beam" chap who had no intention of showing any courtesy at all to following drivers to make it easier to pass instead of making a hasty and illegal crossing of double white lines.
Complete ignorance but really only normal behaviour from a Perth road user who probably also drives a car. No need for yet more virtually un-policable legislation but if it keeps the turkeys happy in parliament and makes them think they're earning their brass, why not?
