You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.

    Hi,
I recon my lifetime's 'waiting to pass' is far greater for vehicles than bicycles.
    Cheers

They altered the rule not long ago but as with lots of other of their regulations will probably end up being a feast made for lawyers. A large majority of drivers have no idea of general road rules, safety or competence, let alone judging when it's safest to pass bikes on double whites.

Sorry, that wasn't very clear, was it?
No, nothing to do with actual speed.

In WA, it's illegal to overtake on a solid white line marker, whether it be on your right or left.
Except if the solid line on the left is marking a bike path, and you can cross it to go around say a car travelling in the same direction turning right.

And when the 1/1.5m passing of cyclists rule came in, it allows the crossing of a solid white line to overtake/pass "as long as it's safe to do so". One assumes that because bikes are going so much slower and require less distance, and road width, then it's quicker and therefore less risk.

However, that all goes out the window when you've got a peloton 2 wide by 10 long, or a single line some 20+ long, and we end up back in frustrationville.
If at first you don't succeed, that's one data point. - xkcd

If the peloton was in single file and keeping as far to the left as possible there would not be a problem.
