I think all you wallys are picturing a tree in the middle of the naturestrip with no other obstruction. This time of the year in the hills any machinery bigger than a dingo would make a bigger mess than the job is worth you guys are trying to pick your teeth with a fence post.

Is there any reason why you can't just leave the stump as it is for a while to dry out and burn it at a later date?
You managed to live with the 10m tree before you cut it down, A ground level stump shouldn't be too problematic unless you intend to build on that area.

Fire restriction for but offs in our area residential bush land mean fires must be extinguished by 6pm firessnd must be attended and no bigger than 1mtre and only on certain days. Shire is pretty strict here.

You should be able to burn out a dry stump below ground level in a day.

I couldn't justify paying $240.00 to hire a grinder to get rid of one stump and do all the work myself. These machines take a lot of work to manhandle and control. Best left to younger, fitter blokes.I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a professional in to do it for less than that.

I had the impression it is an acreage property out in the sticks with plenty of space to move around in. Sounds more like a typical Melbourne skimpy house block.

...wondering why an OKA would be any better at pulling stumps than a Disco or Defender?
