    Be careful of identity fraud

Well it's happened. My I.D has been fraudulently used across many Lending institutions and Telco's.

Long story short, was contacted by ANZ(where I don't have an account) with reference to a loan application for $70K. Their due diligence revealed the applic appeared less than genuine. Someone had generated a NSW Drivers Licence(which I've never had with an equally bogus home address in Sy).
They had also produced a dodgy payslip.
I asked how did they get my details, her reply " if you have a Facebook account with your D.O.B and probably a picture at work, they make up the rest".
Almost every business I've had to deal with have been exemplary with one exception ,....Vodafone. They have set the debt collectors onto me despite never having had an account with them, in fact they never actually called to discuss as the first thing I received was an aggressive text from CCC,*******! (have filed a complaint with TIO).

If nothing else remove your D.O.B from social media.

    Good Luck!

Years ago the Social Security had an entire section based in Canberra detecting identity fraud. They worked in conjunction with federal police. This is a felony under the Commonwealth Crimes Act not a misdemeanour under the Social Security Act. DSS fieldies don't have power of arrest so it was necessary to have federal police on hand. They got busy in the 1990's when the two holdout states finally bit the bullet and computerised their births deaths and marriages records. As one of their section managers said to me "We found out how many dead people we were paying pensions to."

Yes, I've lodged the I.D theft with ACORN(Federal agency) which then farms out to State police. So far The Qld & N.S.W police have launched investigations against the crew who faked mine and many others I.D.
