It depends what "illegal stuff" you are referring to. A lot of things motorists think are illegal bicycle behaviour often aren't as people rarely know all the details of the rules. The main thing I can think that you might be referring to is groups of cyclists running stop signs or red lights (which drives me nuts too). If it's a regular bunch ride then film them, report it to the local cops and they will probably set up at the location and ping everyone doing this the next morning. People often gripe about cyclists not having identification like number plates (refer the other current thread where this old chestnut has come up again). Fact is, if it's a bunch ride then they will be doing the same route every other day and most riders wear the same kit so identification is not that hard.

Bringing this back on topic though, if it's cyclists running red lights you are worried about, then they will probably end up in the hospital sooner or later, but in regard to trucks crossing double lines, it will most likely be the other guy who suffers.

Most of us were issued a small book when getting our first Learner's Permit, "The Highway Code". In this book was the clear statement that the first rule of the road is "Keep to the Left". In my view when cyclists are riding two and more abreast then the outside rider(s) are not keeping to the first rule. If cyclists rode in single file and as close to the left hand side of the road as is practical then they can be overtaken easily by motorists and are much less likely to incite road rage. If there is another lane to move into to overtake, then fine, but most roads and streets are single lane in each direction and with a constant stream of oncoming traffic overtaking becomes difficult so keep left, cyclists. Show some courtesy. If you get out of the way of heavy motorised traffic the life you save may be yours.

How long ago was this little book issue to learners and in which state.....either way it probably well out of date as Road rules have changed I.e. riding two abreast is legal.

The 1m rule I wasn’t happy with it becoming law and I’m a bike rider......

In capital city bikes generally are not allowed on hi-way which I assume is freeways in today’s terms.

I’d like to know the areas where people see groups riding three abreast regularly??....as I’ve never seen it apart from when a pack is overtaking another rider or group which generally happens pretty quickly. Post up some locations as if I’m on the area I’ll go and see if I get the same experience.

If cyclists ride in single file in a peloton it’s not easier to pass.

You still need to cross out of a lane, and now it takes significantly longer to pass.

Move on. It’s not as bad as it seems and if they weren’t on a bike having a ride they’d likely be in cars adding to congestion and slowing you up anyway.

And the little handbook, applied to operations of a motor vehicle.. Professional truck drivers?

In NZ and SA in the 80s/90s was a little book called the 'road code'(NZ), I still have a "1989-1990 Road Traffic Code" from SA. Now in SA there is a learners book which has all the relevant stuff in there for them.

No. Freeways are different to highways. There are far more highways than freeways in Australia. Highways usually have HWY after their name i.e. Stuart Hwy.

Looking at the photos again, the road train actually has his brakes lights on.

Maybe, even if the camera car backed off, the gap was still too small, and as soon as the road train touched his brakes, the bdouble would know that the safest solution is the one he took.

Well brisbane doesn’t have too many hi-ways if any these day......

I reckon Australia wide cyclist would be lucky to actually use 1% of hiways

Most of response are around around cyclist in the city or the fringes of the city.
