RACQ calls for pedestrians to be fined

    And rightly so.

RACQ says phones and roads a deadly combo, calls for pedestrian offenders to be fined - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Also in the article (for those that don't read the links):
The Queensland-based Pedestrian Council of Australia has called for speed limits to be reduced to 30 kilometres per hour in built-up areas.

    Agree 100%

    I see this all day.

But also pedestrians need to be educated.

Many miss the point, you can’t just step out onto a crossing without looking, well you can but you may be hit by something.

What happened to the stop, look left, then right, then left again. If clear continue to cross the road.

This needs to be done whether crossing the road on a crossing or not.

I agree, pedestrians need to look first.

A speed limit of 30? revenue rasing or just punishing the people who do the right thing and probably don't have the accidents in the first place?

Pedestrians think they own the road, how about they carry ID, get registered and insured and then get off my road before they get me killed. I only say this because I'm worried for them.

Oh, great article also. This was the finest part of the journalism.

Earlier this month, Caroline Davis, 33, was killed on her birthday when she was hit by a ute while jogging at Chelmer in south-west Brisbane.

Also this month, a pedestrian was critically injured on the city's northside, and a 67-year-old woman was killed and her partner injured when they were struck by a car in Logan City, south of Brisbane.

Yesterday, a woman in her 20s sustained severe leg injuries when she was run over by a bus in Brisbane's CBD.

It is not known whether any of these cases were linked to mobile phones or other devices.
    Cheers

I "educated" one a few weeks ago in Kalgoorlie ................... with my bullbar.

Phone in his ear, not looking at where he was going - stepped straight out in front of me. Luckily I was only traveling quite slowly (it was in the main street) and only clipped him lightly - enough to give him a bloody good fright but didn't knock him off his feet.
    Cheers .........

RACQ is becoming a huge organisation, company , business, bank.

They have never really stood up strongly for the motorists, whether it be road conditions , fuel pricing or speed cameras.

They now have something over 25% of Queensland's population as members and their takeover of what was once a very good credit union has consolidated them into a very powerful lobbying group.

Unfortunately the power they have available appears already to be politically tarnished and the possibility of the platform working for the average motorist is diminishing with the modern need for roadside service.

Their flat battery/flat tyre service has become huge and their political clout is increasing......not particularly in the best interests of motorists.
