We are running LED spots and party lights in an outdoor area using the old iron core transformers[under cover],strange thing is when LEDs turned on, the TV loses its signal, instant blank screen. Why is this?
There are no more CFLs in our house, hated the silly things, too slow in winter and died prematurely in closed fittings. Current model LED BC globes are heaps better than even a couple of years ago. Mirabella brand 4000K ones from the local supermarket look very similar to old fashioned frosted globes. Down lights all got replaced by sealed 10W LED units off ebay, they plug in where the old ones plugged in. At around $100 for a box of 10 there were a few left over for spares but 3 years later I've not needed even one of them.
I don't like wasting stuff if it's not really necessary replace it .. so I still have a few CFLs remaining .. can't wait till they finally die and I can then replace with LEDs too.
What I'm wondering tho, is which government is mandating LEDs.
Can't find any regs on that from the Federal Gov.
I remember that many governments around the country had LED or low energy changeover incentives to get folks to switch. I switched just because they're so much cheaper to run .. didn't need any incentive. (I just hate CFLs)
Is this compulsory LED thing a QLD Gov reg? Sounds stupid if it is.

I reckon those CFL / low energy whatever they were, were one of the biggest white elephants foisted on us in years. Supposed to be 'long life', we were replacing them more often than we ever did the old incandescent globes. Supposedly low energy consumption, but I'd have to switch the light on in the walk-in wardrobe before I got in the shower if I wanted to be able to find my clothes when I got out, thus the light was on 10 times longer than it should have been. Walk into a room to get something, switch the light on, fumble around in the dark finding what you came for and then switch the light off on the way out while it was still waking up. Grrr.
We used to have a nice recessed twin batten fluero above our kitchen bench. When the ceiling plaster was replaced last years, the insurance company fitted a strip LED light above the bench. Obviously I was going to complain about this as I HATE led lighting.................... However the thing is brilliant. You can actually see under it ( I used to find LEDs were super bright ... but you couldn't actually see anything under them). This one you can.

Ditto.
For some strange reason, the CFLs killed the motion sensor in the porch light. Several replacement porch lights too. The CFLs didn't last long either. The electronics don't like being turned on and off frequently.
Before they were withdrawn from sale, I bought quite a number of incandescents. I've only used a couple. The last one that died was an Australian made Phillips. You can work out how old that was.
When we built this house 24 years ago, we had CFLs throughout. Probably two thirds of them have failed since then, but some of the originals are still going, even in high use places like my bedroom. For the lat perhaps seven years, replacements have been LEDs, which I generally have found satisfactory.
