    Tombie, we have to meet.

I will be in William Ck for their Bronco Branding weekend in August. I think it will be 18/19 Aug, where will you be around that time?

I may meet up the SA guys 30 odd km out of Woomera on the thursday and camp out or come up from Adelaide through Pt Augusta in convoy. We still campout 3rd sandhill on right north of Woomera.....after a meal at the Eldo.

For some strange reason, the CFLs killed the motion sensor in the porch light. Several replacement porch lights too. The CFLs didn't last long either. The electronics don't like being turned on and off frequently.
Before they were withdrawn from sale, I bought quite a number of incandescents. I've only used a couple. The last one that died was an Australian made Phillips. You can work out how old that was.
I was chatting to a cockie out near Temora last year who had a very expensive GPS driven seeder that would lose the GPS signal and shut down. After much expensive troubleshooting and a week of downtime it turned out to be the cheap LED work lights on the tractor masking the GPS signal.

one of my fellow firefighters did this. all of the lights in his house are 12v on a 12v circuit connected to a battery and solar panel. he has lights even in a blackout.

My late best buddies parents do this also. They're not connected to the grid at all with no power to their property. Solar and wind to wet cells and they run 12v in the house.

Well I ordered LED's for the chandeliers the other day they cost $400 for 22 bulbs & the guy did a deal for 22. Only about another 50 bulbs to go as they are needed . Already replaced 3 in the last couple of weeks . I replace all bulbs that come on with the same switch when I do. O well, you have to spend money to save money I suppose.

We have replaced all the lights in our rental house with LEDs both fluorescent and incandescent as well as our front and rear flood lights with LEDs power bills have plummeted daylights in the kitchen and lounge/dining room, warm white in bedrooms even our bed lamps are 5.5w LEDs all sourced from you guessed it---Bunnings,but we have kept the flouro and incandescents for when we leave.

    cheers

Hate the LED's in our (newly built) rented house. Horrible white light. There's research out about the harmful effects of LED's as they lack the red end of the light spectrum. I get headaches/migraines if they're on for too long.

Solution? We rarely use the ceiling lights (only when cleaning) and just have lamps in each room with older style warm light bulbs. Gives nice mood lighting and is far easier on the eyes.

That research is mostly directed at headlights.
As for the newly built rental house, they either chose the wrong colour temp (kelvin) or weren't told they had a choice from the builder or electrician.
They will most likely be 6000k, change them to 3000k.
