I threw the boots away.

I'm amazed that they actually bothered to chase the cable down.

legal requirement.

This problem with Chinese electrical cable goes back years. I worked for a cable manufacture in Dandenong South some ten years or more ago. Then they where having issues with Chinese cable. Mainly house cable. That white flat three core cable. Problem then was the copper wire would have voids or bubbles in it that would cause the wire to over heat and fail. Did cause a few house fires. Was a good thing for the company that I worked for though.

The plastic had just degraded over a couple of years from exposure to something, a bit like the insulation in the cable as in the OP's post.

The Rossi Safety boots do the same thing, I had a pair in the garage I used for mowing, then the soles came adrift.

I just buy redback boots these days. Australian made... comfortable. I like there lace up boots with the zips down the side. You can unzip to slip them on and off easily without unlacing them.

If a company have offshored there boots to china. I will not buy them. At the same time most of the "locals couldn't afford to make boots in Australia" and moved to china.... redback opened there doors and started making boots here. Look how big they are now.

Many moons ago I was dealing with the CFEMU, and they stipulated all workers going onto a building site were to be issued with Australian made clothing, Fair enough keeping fellow Aussies in jobs which I'm fully for.
I had the task of sourcing Aussie made Bluey Jackets . After much frustration I rang the CMFEU and told them Bluey Jackets were made oversess, ( Can't remember which country). The CFEMU thne said KIWI JACKETS were acceptable, so looking after our over the Tasman bros.
