Hi,
Watch Pomedies instead of Yank sitcoms?
Cheers
As we all know, TV programs are crap these days so we are borrowing DVD,s to watch instead.
While we can understand the spoken word on the ads and programs we are finding it nearly impossible to decipher the voices from the DVD so it makes it hard to know the plot. Increasing the volume makes it no clearer.
I thought about extension speakers but our TV has no output apart from a headphone jack and besides the sound from the TV programs is OK only the DVD,s are hard to pickup.
Any ideas?
Keith

Wireless headphones?
Don.
That is how they are supposed to be. I was being driven bloody nuts by TV's I couldn't hear. My home stereo has always been overkill (I liked playing sound systems back when I was a teenager).
By sound ... I mean sound .... Richter dragons mains, my old richter wizards laying down as a center. And we found we still couldn't hear the bloody dialogue. We eventually worked it out.
You see, the idea is the watcher is "immersed" in the sound. You need to crank the volume up to the point where you can clearly here the voices .... and you will be "immersed" in the soundWe watched "The Accountant" on netflix a couple of weeks back. The voices were nice and clear ... but the actions scenes had the couch vibrating under us.... The pictures on the walls buzzing ..... and we pretty much found the resonant frequency of the house when the guns were being fired.
Just as well we have no close neigbhours and the kids are heavy sleepers![]()
It is the lunacy of the way the shows are being recorded. You either have the VOLUME or you can't hear the damn voices. We simply can't watch commercial tv any longer as if you turn the shows up loud enough to hear the dialogue ... the adverts will blow the back wall out of the loungeroom when they come on
Its not you .... I can't hear bloody tvs any longer either. Simply because the background sound in the programs is often louder than the dialogue. The reason they do it is to make the "mood music" and "action scenes" .... "loud and exciting".

Hi,
And the volume of the "mood" sound track (I can't call it music) is the inverse of the script/acting quality.
Cheers
It depends what you are watching. There seems to be a lot of effort put into the sounds tracks of most movies. Imagine if they were recorded in "mono" sound so you hear it nice and clearly on an old single speaker tv. Those that have spent many thousands of $$$ setting Dolby ATMOS systems with 800 speakers around the room would be most displeased (and I imagine most theaters would refuse to play it).

I was in at bigW yesterday talking with the sound saleswoman and she said the same thing. Suggested surround sound or a soundbar and turn down the outside.
Not cheap just to watch some old DVD,s. Cost more than the TV and DVD player combined.
They wont connect to our TV anyway as its only got a headphone socket.
