Flag man gave me a very ambiguous sign which could have meant anything so I dropped the window and asked "Stay left or go right?" Quite frankly I don't think he knew the difference.

Bit harsh that as I think most of the people I see from sheltered workshops are more intelligent. I was threatened by a huge oaf not long ago who waved his sign at me and I told him to stop talking and keep his mind on the job. I had done as his sign instructed and drove "SLOW"......
I don't think he had the faintest idea what I was talking about.

I helde the sign up the gibb river road for a bit when do bridges up there and the amount of times I sat the sign on some old blind bastards windsreen that thought they owned the road with the excuse that they didn't see it, caravan in tow and a bloody danger to all road users. Had some heated arguments even though if they had gone 10 meters more the back of the digger would have taken the roof off the vehicle. We use to start setting speed limit sign about 2 km either side of the work site, waste of time they were

Most travellers listen to uhf chan 40 and 99% of the time the traffic controller's also use chan 40 so there is NO excuse for not seeing the lollypop spinner at a roadworks area because you can hear them miles before you even get there.
As for using boom gates i think it is a great idea as it helps to keep other road users safe and more importantly it makes it safer for the people doing the roadworks.
My experience is a little different...might be the eastern states.....well where I travel for work.Quote:

They can't see any reason for the stupid lowering of the speed to a crawl miles before anything is actually happening. Of course that's no excuse for some drivers behaviour but why is it that something which in other countries is done so easily can cause so many problems here?
However, that's not the only thing about driving which confuses most Oz drivers especially WA ones...... :)
