I have seen the traffic lights, but not a boom gate for road works. The only thing I've seen similar, is a boom gate blocking off a short cut used for council buses in a suburban street.
Yesterday, going to pick up the grandkids for the holidays I found something new to me. At roadworks on Barbigal Hill on the Golden Highway they have one lane blocked, with one way traffic controlled by traffic lights - nothing particularly unusual, but in this case, the lane being stopped, as well as the usual lights, the trailer carrying these is equipped with a boom gate that comes down across the lane when the lights turn red.
They also use an escort vehicle, which is becoming more common.
Anyone else seen these boom gates?

Probably the usual traffic management techniques are not sufficient to keep impatient ice heads in order these days.
Have heard of them as we've had enquiries to supply them at work but not seen them personally.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
I've seen boom gates here but not as you've described.

I have not yet seen a boom gate as described. I remember the first set of those trailer mounted traffic lights I came across. I blithely drove past the red light thinking "that's strange. That trailer has a set of traffic lights in it. Why would someone park it here in the middle of nowhere." I then got roundly abused by the roadworks guys around the bend.

When we went to Gunnedah on the June long weekend some of the road works were using escorts as well as lights & stop go man in booth Qld & NSW. May be to give one more person a job to get our unemployment down. One extra man per road works site al over Australia that a lot of jobs. Only kiding I did find that the vehicles in front of me in the road works would leave me for dead & I was holding up the vehicles behind me if I traveled at the signed speed.
I haven’t see any trailer mounted ones, but I’ve seen several of the small free standing ones around. They have all been hire ones BOOM GATE - PORTABLE for Rent - Kennards Hire

Got some road works going on near my place outside of a primary school. Went towards it this morning and there's 2 flag men standing there and another gobbing off about something and their flags said ...."SLOW" and the next one said "STOP" so what was I supposed to do? So I drove slowly towards them and the bloke gobbing off pointed at the signs and shouted.....and then shut up as he realised they were both showing a different message.
Not my fault if the clowns can't keep their mind on the job.
