    Blasted Land rovers.

It is nice how land rovers have a built in feature where they self lubricate underneath so as to slow up the rust and keep suspension parts supple. That is until you need to get a road worthy. Been doing my head in trying to find and temporally (lets face it , never going to completely stop a landy from leaking oil ) stop some oil leaks. May have found the source of one leak though. At least the bloke doing the road worthy has said he would only concentrate on the motor leaks.

Long ago, didn't Rover make bicycles and motor cycles? Rolls-Royce invented the oil leak and the British motor cycle industry perfected it.

I hear you! Last Sunday I helped a friend take a 300Tdi engine out of a wreck. Shown below is the engine (nearly degreased) and amount of degreaser we used to try and clean it up.....

I have been to our local super cheap so often they now keep asking if i want to be a member. Local car wash is also being sponsored by me at the moment. Wash underneath, tighten oil line, test drag, check underneath bugger and back to the car wash. Done this about three times now and it looks like at least one more time.

The storm water pit is not the ideal spot to send oil and grease down though . I was wondering why my fish have been tasting oily lately

Ha ha. Not quite, but it would have made the job a hell of a lot easier if we did! We actually cleaned down the engine in the workshop next to the hoist. We ended up shoving it outside (plus 3 cars) when we were shifting stuff around to get the camper trailer back into the factory unit so we could take one of the other vehicles home. It just looked like a good place to take a photo. The water on the ground was from hosing down one of the cars and camper (out of frame) that were covered in dirt. The joys of borrowing someone elses factory unit and it's tight for space! It was a long day....

This is what the unit looked like a couple of days previously, before the other vehicles arrived and we had to shoehorn in everything and then work around them. If you hadn't guessed already, the engine came out of the red D1....
