Trailer thieves. .. bypassing your hitch lock

Make the tail lamp mounts big enough to place the unit behind one light. It should work through the lenses and charging power is adjacent.

That would work if you used the trailer every week or so ......... I imagine most trailers go months between use (mine do .... They can't go 12months without being used ... then are using every day for the next month straight). Especially the car trailer.

I have often seen roadworks trailers with the wheels removed and on stands to prevent theft, This could be the simple solution people here are looking for[thumbsupbig]

Its for my camper and yes it does have a 12 volt car battery connected to it in a permanent battery box. With a bit of playing around i think i can make it work.
Receiver has to be able to receive obviously. The units themselves dont use much power. If i was to have a battery pack from a RC or something to power it and the battery pack automatically charges from the car battery when below a certain level then it will last long extended periods of time and work even if the main battery power is severed.

Have unit work off a shock sensor. Once moved it begins recording and does not stop unless i stop it. Thats the sort of plan. Just need to execute it now.
Simple enough though i think. My cars alarm is quite similar in that it detects movement and goes nuts. Battery does not run flat over weeks of not starting.

I dont ever expect my camper to get stolen though. Not around here.

I made a trailer 18 months ago 7 x 5 all check plate. It sits out the front on the nature strip and has for that whole time. No locks or chains. Anyone could just hook up and go. No takers thus far.

No the road crews remove the wheels, Much eaiser to lock up a couple of wheels than the whole trailer and it's pretty hard for a thief to nick a trailer with No wheels on it.

Yeah, that's the advice we give our customers who hire light towers - use the stabilisers to get the wheels off the ground the. remove the wheels. It makes them much harder (not impossible) to steal. I have done this on my can from time to time too - out one side on jack stands and remove the wheels from one side - again, not impossible to overcome but for the opportunist thief, they will find something easier.

If you have electric brakes you can run off a break away battery and stick a small solar panel on the drawbar.

Ours is protected with insurance, just wasting your money on locks in my opinion.

Interesting, i hold the exact opposite view. Insurance is a waste of money and locks are a good option hahahahaha.
I have always held the view insurance companies could not exist unless they receive more money than they pay out. So logic suggests there must be loosers.
Im a bit like ned flanders in that regard. Insurance is a form of gambling.
