Usually as I near another LR, I'll look to see if the driver is looking my way (ie an interested LR driver). I'll wave if he/she is looking remotely interested, however won't bother if their staring into space, changing CD's or telling the kids off!
That being said, I look at the driver of every Defender type LR that I see on the road, with the objective to wave to them. Unfortunately as it appears I only drive a "mundane LR", that is a Series 2 Disco with snorkel and bullbar, 99% of the time I do not see any acknowlegement from them. I did have one glimmer of hope though, a few months ago on Hoddle St, Melbourne, a bloke with a really nice army spec Defender or Series of some kind. I gave the wave, he gave the acknowlege smile and nod. It felt good to break through to someone in the middle of the city!

Well i have something amazing to say, after bringing this up about a month or so ago, i've been getting responces from other Landy drivers including Defenders AND 8O Disco drivers, one shorty series driver even waved and nodded in the rear view mirror as i was coming up behind him, and tooted his horn as i went by
Also there's a dark green Series 1 Disco, lifted, large tyres, offset rims and driving lights across the roof rack in the Heathcote area that has waved a couple of times which is a change (very nice looking Disco) there has also been a couple of Defenders in the Shire that haven't waved (hope they weren't you Bushie).

All this has restored my faith in Landy owners now, so no matter i'll keep waving now, remember it could be me you pass and if i recognise you from here, be prepared for a pizzling

Since I last posted on this subject we've done a fair few kilometres. I'd have to say that out of the dozen or so Defenders we've passed going the other way, ALL of them waved enthusiastically! Then again, with the rack and roof-top tent sitting up there I'm tall and hard to miss!

I never even received this sort of response from the Jeep-set when I was driving one of them around, and the so-called "Jeep Wave" is a thing of fanciful fiction.

Get little response back around town- they're all shopping carts, school taxis or ego rides

    But i still wave!!!

Although I do miss most of the Freelanders (sorry folks) - most of their drivers - don't even know they've got a LR & they don't really stand out - so they're gone by the time I see them
I wave to other Land Rover drivers..... even when I'm walking along the street.

Now that gets some funny looks I can tell you :!:

    waving

Fair enough-my problem is that I am not lifted-but I do have muddies, bullbar, winch and a rooftop camper. lol. I might put this thread up every month or 2 and then eventually word will get out by osmosis that it is just not kosher to not wave at a fellow landy driver-and if you dont you can expect landy road rage incidents.

    see you on the road

Hmmm....I will ignore OI baited hook

From our recent travels we reckon the Defender owners are even slacking off in the waving department.

I think everyone is slacking off. I rarely get waves from anyone anymore. This is bad for two reasons. 1) no one waves, 2) Stacey gets to sit there and say- "you realise everyone thinks you are an idiot"

I've actually forgotten that I was in the Jeep at the time and waved to a couple of Defenders...... only to be given the middle finger. :?
