My first 4WD was Bertha - an FJ55 Land Cruiser. This is she.......

... after my son bought it.

But what Vlad wants to do has been done. I've got an article somewhere out in the garage.

Oh, late edit: these were ugly but still the best looking Land Cruiser ever made....

    old 55

My 82 year old neighbour had one, a rust coloured one, (they all are after 20 years). It had the roof tied on with coathangers
It had no exhaust either and I sure knew whenever he used it.
Anyway he only drove it a few times each year, eventually to a wrecker who actually gave him some money - probably for the coathangers.
Then he decided he wanted another 4wd and asked me about Range Rovers.
The very first one we saw was an '85 one that was OK ish for the money and I thought, well he is 82, and only drives it a few times a year, she'll be right.
Bugger me if the old coot is'nt out in it nearly every day, and guess what, he is 85 soon.!!!
I have stopped asking nervously how is it going? He and his missus absolutely love it to pieces, I saw a detailer going over it on the weekend..
He certainly landed on his feet, the only problem has been a busted radiator hose..

Shoot me now, but those old girls are a great 4x4. I learnt to drive in my Dad's 1968 model. They were a very comfortable wagon for their time. This one is still going after being rebuilt, rolled, rebuilt again. We drove it to Adelaide and back, had the head checked as it was using water and it had 56 hairline cracks in the head, and was repaired. This vehicle was just about impossible to bog, and I know as I tried often enough. These oldies would still crap all over a 100 series for ability and reliability.
