Bridge embankments washed away Sunday, new bridge by Thursday lunchtime, we dont muck around
This is on a national highway in PNG, didnt even bother telling the Govt, just do it
I think the concrete blocks borrowed from my FAD ( Fish Attraction Device) project are going nowhere
The trick is to cut the roof of the Container out & fill it with rocks/roadbase

Let's see your temporary fixes that become permanent

    Thanks for posting Andy.

Whoever organised the placing/sinking of the containers got them fairly square , but I'm not sure that they will be able to contain the ballast long term - (one appears to be bulging a little already).

Was the approach to the Bailey undermined ?

Probably N/A in PNG, but the containers could be filled with rocks and concrete to last a very long time.

Yes, basically suspended from one corner, will have to disassemble and rebuild

We normally get a few years out of these, eventually the heavy trucks slowly crush them, despite being filled

Try to avoid that, paper work becomes horrendous
I had/have 10 containers and 2 40' flat racks for such emergencies, which reminds me, i need to buy some 20mm wire rope for log bridges

Yeah badly worded, what I meant was that if concrete was used as well as rocks the integrity of the container doesn't matter over time.

We use containers to build semi-circular pads for our stackers in the iron ore mines. Place a series of containers in an arc where the stacker wheels will slew, with one additional container under the pivot base. Cut the tops out of the containers and weld internal brackets and cross bracing (we used steel wire with turnbuckles) inside the containers to stop them bulging outwards before filling them with rock and dirt. Then fill in the area between the "arc" and the "pivot" containers with rock and dirt to provide an access pad for maintenance etc.

The one in the photo was at Nullagine - stacker weighed 52 tonnes empty, and slewed through a 180 degree radius. Was in use for 5 years with over 20 million tonnes of crushed iron ore passing over it.
