Thread: Laying Vinyl

Damink I used to be involved in commerical flooring industry in by gone years. Laying vinyl correctly is a specialised trade, firstly elcheapo bunnings vinyl is what it is elcheapo, it has no body to it, you might as well of layed newspaper. Vinyl layers use purpose made pressure purpose sensitive vinyl adhesive when installing vinyl , not the stuff the Bunnings stores would stock and they use a heavy roller to go over it. Trimming in is also a skilled thing, if its too tight then it might bunch up and ripple.

If you get a warm sunny day, put it in the sun for a couple of hours, but if you're wanting to do it sooner than that, soften the wrinkles with a heat gun - be careful not to burn it - there's a fine line between warm and black. Practice of a scrap poece first.

While I'm not expert at this, I have seen plenty laid and the pros always carry heat guns for such things, and running up around coping, etc.

Bottom line is i purchased poorly and ultimately my result will reflect that.

Wifey is adamant we can do it anyway Gotta love her attitude. Although i am inclined to agree with you.

In for a penny i guess so might as well try lay it. See what i come up with and most likely rip it all up and start again. Money is already lost anyway.

Will update post with what comes of it.

Slapped down some glue and job is done.
Come out better than i hoped.

Added a heap more weight to all areas where there is anything resembling a high area.
Keep in mind cupboards will be build next and much of what you can see will be covered with cupboards/seats.

There is a bit at the top left of the image that looks bubbled. Its not rather there is no floor there. Once dried i need to cut out the lino for a fridge recess. Just seemed easier to keep it all intact until dry and then i can trim to suit.

Boss is happy so im happy.

Laying vinyl beats laying bricks, geeze, laying bricks certainly hurts the fundamental.
