So... has anyone bought a Wollemi Pine yet?

Now that they are commercially available, we're really looking forward to planting a copse of Wollemi down near the river at Omaroo. I like the story behind the tree - thought to be extinct, found, propagated and saved from extinction. Jenny and I are going to do our bit to propagate a few for posterity.

I've seen the sign outside Tim's nursery at Narellan and Campbelltown advertising them for $49 a tree. Is anyone else going to give it a go?

The local hardware store is donating one to the school tomorrow. They are bringing a 6 foot one out to show us and then they are giving us a smaller example valued at around $70. matt

I wouldn't mind a few, they're a very nice looking tree. A freind of mine in WA has a some on order, but with all his Cycads I can't see him fitting them in anywhere.
Then again they just may not grow where he is, no matter how green his thumb is

Read the book by James Woodford of its discovery.

    It is a ripping yarn.

    Politics, sex and humour.

The strange thing is that all the plants in the the first grove (and the second grove found some distance away) are genetically identical.

This species is the ultimate genetic bottle neck.

So this off-topic question might be up your alley.

Single-cell life, splits into two and separates.

    Two identical thingys.

    Is it immortal?
