    Its called confirmation bias.

    Basically most people are looking for you to agree so that it confirms a pre existing belief, and they will interpret even hard data in such a way that it it confirms their original opinion, even if the data totally contradicts their position.

    Thus remarks like "it was just serviced" and "the mechanic said this is common" and such?

    I have a Tassie mate from defence who is through and through Toyota, but has admitted he admires my Rangie. Oddly enough he is not the sort to have a dig or tease, just accepts your choice and moves on with life.

    I'm just as bad, I started with Jeeps!

    Dad's was mock horrified when I bought "a bloody Land Rover??!!" Not so "interesting" conversation
