Thread: Arc Welding UV Radiation

Mate that's all I use. State of The Arc recommended them years ago. I have a little Esseti 160amp and it drives the WIA 3.2mm rods like a dream. I haven't got the ones that look like glass though. I might give them a bell. Just curious now.

Strange because that's definitely them. The slag is glass when you chip it off, not the rod itself. I won't use anything else since I got onto these many moons ago, if I use any other rods I just embarrass my self now lol

I understand. No I use the GP version of the Austarc. I will grab some 16TC next time. Many thanks.

Yeah I have a feeling that make a few types, but those 16TC I honestly can't get enough of them. If you can't weld with them well you can't weld hahaha. I'm not great with standard quality electrodes takes a while for me to get it right, but with those it's insane the quality of the weld it's like chalk and cheese.

Jim just had a look. Mine are Austarc GP's
My machine is a 150amp not 160. Drives the 3.2 all day as fast as I can feed it. Love the inverters. I have had it well over 10 years.

Go get your hands on some 16TC and you will never go back, they aren't much dearer either. Ive never tried the austarc GPs but I'd still expect a high quality electrode compared to some of the other brands out there.
I had a weldskil 150 amp inverter from bunnings and it worked great, lost it in Sydney with some other gear. Ive gone back to the 200amp buzz box, I can't remember the brand but it's a damn good Australian made one about 20 years old. Weighs about 40kg so it's not very portable an absolute nightmare to get up a ladder or in the disco. Other than replacing the leads, clamp and holder its worked everytime unless it shorts the house out hahaha.
Gonna invest in a multi welder next time though, start welding some thinner steel.

Yep I would love an AC.DC TIG. Tradetools have one that looks very nice. They sell a lot of them. $780 odd from memory and a good TIG for home guys.
