Pyjama cricket has been all about tv revenue since Kerry Packers World Series in the mid 70’s. It was the beginning of the end IMO. Before that it was real cricket on the ABC. Its logical destination was always going to be pay tv. It’s kinda like fake baseball, with none of the longevity or tradition. ...I’d be surprised if Fox revenue increases much, especially considering the trend of bringing in pyjama cricket ‘specialists’ who don’t play in the real game - tests. Even then I’ve lost interest as it all becomes commercialised entertainment, rather than sport.

AFL is in danger of becoming a pay TV only sport too. The rampant commercialisation of everything that used to be free family entertainment will backfire one day, especially if the ridiculous cost of living in Australia continues to rise unchecked. A Foxtel caused recession? Probably not but it all contributes to the teetering tower of cards we’re all living under.

Cricket results? People will lose interest the more expensive and inaccessible it all becomes.

If it’s like anything else Foxtel, they’ll be far more. They don’t have to follow the same guidelines as FTA so they generally pack in more ads. They certainly did when I had Foxtel but wouldn’t touch them now.

Interestingly they were saying on the radio the other day that now all Cricket in England is pay, that interest in the game has dropped dramatically and uptake by younger people has fallen off too. Who would have thought...

The free to air AFL coverage is crap , with all the ads. Pay to watch all the other games during the season, then the glut of ads for stuff I don’t want . I would rather pay a few bucks be it subscription or via the tax dollar on ABC.

Most people prefer Netflix to Foxtel, so the audience can only drop.
I see the CEO of CA resigned the other day for other reasons. Interesting.

With a camera at one end only, so you see every second over from behind the stumps.

I am/was a big fan of V8 supercars. Due to half of the races now only on Foxtel I am slowly losing interest in the sport.

I fear the same will happen with cricket.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I remember watching an episode of Midsomer Murders where the locals were upset over this new form of cricket from Australia being played in their village.

Meanwhile cricket would be on every TV in India and Pakistan, cricketers are hugely popular - one is now PM of Pakistan - and they are flogging us on the field. So how is that 'win at all costs' approach working for CA?

It’s better on ABC radio anyway...and it’s free.

Exactly Mick. In India it’s still the peoples’ game.

Unfortunately Foxtel is more than just a few bucks. ...maybe if nbn connections + mobile phone plans weren’t so expensive.
