    D3 Competitors

Reading Cars Guide today about the new Touregs getting a 3.0L TDV6 and they were commenting that is competitors were the D3, Rangie Sport, Merc and X5. They also noted that the D3 was the best seller of the lot.
...thought it was interesting, I would have thought the D3 competitors would have been the landcruiser and patrol.

Hi goofyr, I don’t know Cars Guide but if it’s European then it’s not surprising, because Jap 4x4s aren’t all that well liked over there.

Sound like an interesting article, cheers

It's and Australian site. I couldn't find the article though.

Well, just goes to show, even us Australians are starting to get better tastes in vehicles and it’s obvious, Car Guide site must be for up market readers, LIKE US

A mate of mine test drove the 3.0 diesel Tourag a few weeks back and then drove my D3 TDV6. He commented the D3 engine felt noticeably more refined and quieter. And there'd be no comparison in terms of ability...

In this months 4x4 Mthly I think or the other one, it has the Discovery leading in sales in the Luxury 4WD market and coming in 15th overall.

This was in the Courier Mail today - cars guide is a section in there.
Sales were as follows for February

    D3 - 238
    Merc M Series 191
    BMW x5 165
    RR Sport 70
    VW Touareg 26

Could be price, I'd say it's marketing - the x5 & M series are rubbish - on road school taxis. The VW's are a good vehicle and v. capable

Depends what they mean by competitors....

... if they are competing for the Toorak Tractor market - where you need a 4x4 to get to the chalet in the snow.... or to park at the races.. I'm not all all surprised by the list.

.. If they are competing as a vehicle you would want in an off road situation.. well there is no real competition in that list is there.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most

2015 TDV6 D4.... the latest project... Llams, Traxide, Icom 455, Tuffant Kimberleys and Mofos.... so far.
2012 SDV6 SE D4 with some stuff... gone...
    2003 D2a TD5...gone...
    2000 D2 V8...gone...

That's the article I was referring too...sorry should've been more precise, but the one I was reading was a lift out in the Daily Telegraph in Sydney.

When the D3 first came out I was invited by my dealer for a test drive, and I commented on the price hike, they claimed that LR was trying to get some X5 and Merc sales...but that was before the RR Sport came out.
