Lobs Hole Track Closure, Mt Kos, Nat. Park

Signs went up this week end on the popular Lobs Hill Ravine track in the Mt Kosciuszko National Park. This has been one of the more unrestricted parts of the park, with good camping, history and scenic drive.
It has also been chosen as the site of the Snowy 2.0 project and will most likely be shut down for the next 5-10 years, even if reopened it will not be as we know it.
Civilian traffic is still being allowed (well it was on Friday...) with speed restriction signs and call in way points on both access tracks. You are expected to radio your position at each point: 17 of them at the South end alone
Even had a very bored flagman at the start of Lobs Hole itself, directing traffic away from the area up river of the old copper mine, this area appears to be being prepared for the base of operations.
The Southern access track is already being widened and upgraded.
Interestingly, two rangers we spoke to had no idea about what was happening until they read the signs on their way in a day earlier.
I urge anyone who has an affinity with this area, or wishes a last chance to see, to get in before it's too late. I must say that the feeling we had as we drove out was very much that we were the last.....
    Rich.
Note to Mods. Feel free to move this to a better area, trying to cover interested party's on both sides of the border.

Interesting that the rangers didn't know. Though they could have been from Jindy and not Tumut which should have a better handle on that area.

Shame though, it's a nice spot.
