We used them for the first time mid year.
2 different camps, both completely different experiences but great.
    Will definitely do it again.

Yep, it’s a great idea however there are some there that price themselves out of the market - I’ve seen some listings that are a bare paddock, nothing to look at for $50 to $80 a night! For a few dollars for the right places and it’s good value and a great idea.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

For those of you who are members of CMCA, they have initiated a not dissimilar scheme. For travellers, it well worth the $44 subs pa just to access their wikipedia and camping info sites/apps, quite apart from their excellent insurance scheme. We've been members for about 20? years and very happy with them. Very well run, just like this site.

Agree.....some are pricing themselves out of the market or they keep putting the price because they are just too busy.

We look at a couple to stay at earlier this month.....didn’t see the value

When I first came across this a couple of years ago, I thought it was an excellent idea.
But as Gav said, many seem to be pricing themselves out of it,, well, at least out of my business. Several times now I’ve looked at a few just to spend a night or two “in the country”, only to find each time I’d b better off staying at a park or in a motel in town, where you can at least be closer to a pub or whatever you need/want.

Really,, $50+ for a piece of dirt with no facilities (in most cases), is just too much. If you’ve got a van with water etc,, pull up in a wayside stop, or turn off onto a small road and camp by the side.

In NZ a few years ago we used a system known as OK2Stay. With this, provided you were self sufficient, you were allowed to stay for short periods at vineyards, olive groves, rural cafes, berry farms and other enterprises including farms etc free of charge but you were 'encouraged' to sample/buy their produce.
    See Okay2stay

Worked really well but the best by far was a farm stay where the farmers wife allowed us to hook up to the power, to use her laundry and gave us a very hearty three course meal. Naturally, we offered to pay for this extra service and although she only requested $10pp, we gave her substantially more.

Just found what seems to be a similar Aussie one but have no experience with it. See here Agritourism for RV Drivers in Australia | Farmgate Mate

...thousands of camping sites everywhere I go at no cost. Most dont have showers running water and flushing toilets, but its no big deal , didnt have that when I grew up

it's probably good if you want to farmstay.

    Thanks Simon for the tip-off,

Just spent a bit of time perusing.

Throwing around the thought of putting our bottom paddock on
It’s about an acre, fully fenced, plenty of shade, 70m creek front. If I was to camp someplace for a weekend it would tick boxes?
Would only be good for one camp/ group.
Far enough from our house and neighbours that noise not a huge drama, but close enough that supplying firewood keeping an eye on things easy.

Just wondering if it’s worth the hassle.

Property <10min away from us has lots of sites on creeks and are asking $15pp with no facilities.

    Is $15pp considered OTT spendy?

What would you consider a fair number for what I listed?

Sounds perfect, especially if slashed grass.
