Australians qualify for Austudy loans which are only repaid when income reaches a certain level.
Have just finished a contract and while I have another lined up for the new year have been thinking about what our options are. Perhaps it is just the time of year and those on here who know me should not read too much into it however have been looking at options back in Australia.
Jobs, housing and the like are all fairly easy to figure out where I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to assist with expanding my knowledge is around University fees. Have been looking at various websites and perhaps it is just that the UK fee system is different and I am not allowing enough for this.
From what I can see fees range from $6k to $12k depending on the course for an Australian. What other fees or subsidies are there on top of this for an Australian?

Sorry should have been more specific am thinking about my kids the eldest is only a couple of years off university.
Over here they copied the pay after you earn idea so am familiar with that. The course costs per annum and then you can take additional loans on top also repaid as you earn once over a threshold.
Does the local university system just charge per year and you fund the other costs yourself?
I think you have to be an Australian citizen to quality for Aus study, and the Hex system , overseas people it's user pays, other wise it would be unfair for the aussie tax payer to fund overseas students.
I know it was definitely cheaper for me to finish my last half class , to graduate, back in Canada than here, including the airfare.
If your kid is an Aussie (or with Permanent Residency) then HECs applies - initial cost is carried by the Government with fees being charged at the basic govt interest rate - no costs payable until you start earning $1000 per week when you start paying your HECs obligation back (the rules say $51,957 per year but you can earn less than that in a year and still pay HECs where weekly income exceeds that amount on a pro rata basic - basically $1000 per week)
To assist with living and paying for text books (text books are a real scam) there is Austudy. Parents (up to student age of 25) and students are means tested and if if you do not earn enough you are entitled to the Auststudy allowance - $450 - $600 depends on circumstances.
