Would still need to be a Citizen though - still haven’t got that far and given the processing time is over 18 months at the moment, even for permanent residents that have been her over 40 years, I doubt it will happen any time soon.

also more prone to vomit and becoming deaf.

For extra fun & vomit try a flight in a DHC- 4 Caribou, not that you can these days 'cos they have been retired.

Yep...I didn’t do good at taking orders, had to grind out 9 years before they got some relief me

I was lucky enough to do a tailgate ride on one of those in 2006 before they were decommissioned. A mate of mine was good mates with the Loady and by chance they were doing some practise supply runs from RAAF Edinburgh to Cultana and back.

Was a fantastic experience I'd never forget, including the Loady pretending to shove me out the back. The lanyard we wore was just long enough to be slack but catch you if you lent forward. Needless to say I had to change once on the ground.

Another rough, noisy and vomit inducing ride was in a Huey.. they would fly faster if they didn't shake so much.


Just on the being a citizen thing. I could name at least seven current members who received citizenship status after entering Defence. Not sure how, but they were probably suitable or met requirements on enlistment.

yeah they do, just not with passengers on board.....

well not many.

and even if you do get a low level flight in a c17 you can barely see outside the thing so you dont know its happening.

you'll get a more enjoyable flight experience in a bug smasher at low level with a good pilot, some places you can hire a seat in a stunt ride and pick a level..

or go for a run with a crop duster.... thats proper low level especially if they do back and forth runs with a crossing loop at the turn...

Not as impressive but a lot of fun anyway, many years ago flying from Charleville to Broken Hill in an RFDS King Air at 250 feet along a section of the dog fence... but of a buzz.

Its a while since I've had them, but a few years ago there were regular C-130 flights past our house - about 500m to the east, and low enough that you could see the top of the wings from our veranda. (We are on a modest ridge)

While we were living in a caravan building the house, one came right over the caravan at about 0200, must have been close to treetop level. I had to peel my wife from the caravan ceiling, and by 0900 next morning she was on the phone to Richmond. Never had one right over us after that!
