I know this is a bit like asking
“I’m a an inner city hair dresser and I really want a land rover - which one should I buy they all look the same...”
But
Today my trusty old Cox with B&S motivator (13.5hp) decides to ventilate it’s crankcase
Pictures will get attached when I get off this damned mobile site ...
8 ish acres to mow
Mixed paddocks, mostly flat but a few undulations. All the goolies, old fence posts, Lantana, general scrub has been sorted by the Cox so it’s pretty close to ideal paddocks.
Limited grass-to-poo converters at the moment and plan is to plant our at least one of the paddocks with trees
Hence I’m thinking a zero rather than small tractor with slasher/ flail
Any thoughts for or against a toro MX5000
0% interest is a bit silly to walk past
Buying new with 3 year warranty makes sense
I’m not interested in another project
Mowing is simply something that needs to be done,
As best I can ascertain my only drawback with a zero will be the need for both hands to operate hampers beer consumption???

Steve, you could fit a new B&S Vangaurd in a couple of hours, hardly a project.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

my mate has had 4 different zero turns
First was a worn out torro he brought with the business (no longer has it)
Next was Husky (still has it, now running tractor grip tyres filled with water)
Next was a (cant remember the brand, but still has it)
Next he brought a suppension mower (I told him he is getting soft
So he has 3 zero turns ATM and each has its own purpose, he has 3 school he contracts at and other big properties and does heapsof hours a year
If you would like to talk to him, he would be more than happy to talk your ear off and from a user point of view there is not much he wouldn't know
cheers
blaze
The Cox just missed it’s tenth birthday and has been flogged pretty hard
6’ guinea grass in Cooktown and scrub down here
Lots of rocks have been shortened up over the years
Cheapest engine I can find is $800 for 13.5hp vertical shaft
Just can’t see the value in spending on a mower that isn’t actually big enough for the job.
Blaze would be good to talk with a pro. PM a number maybe?

My old ride on mower has semi solid tyres fitted to it so the beer tends to froth up way too much if you carry it on the mower.
I simply have a couple of cans in stubby holders placed stratigicly in the paddock so that i can have a sip on them as i do each round![]()
