No one is above the law. The Police are going to insist he surrenders his licence.

I have no idea what the UK regulations are, but in NSW he would be having annual medical checks and driving tests.

Yeah, my FIL in Lismore has just been through that, and passed easily, which surprised him almost as much as us.

Still driving, and no seatbelt.

I would have sacrificed a minor body part to have heard that conversation between the police and Phil.
The police have discreetly given Phil the chance to voluntarily do the right thing and surrender his licence, but he has done a full Grumpy Old Man and told them to 'Sod off! '
So, what's next? Cancel his licence? Charge him with dangerous driving and humiliate him in court?
This could turn into a major public relations disaster for the English Royals.

Yes, if they want to remain relevant today, they will have to handle this carefully. Time for the Queen to pass it on, I think. To whom?

Phil could have chosen the diplomatic path, apologised, publicly expressed his regret and best wishes for the injured and said he would stop driving and this matter would have been forgotten in days.
Instead, by choosing to drive publicly again, and without a seatbelt, knowing the photographers would be waiting, he has given everyone the middle finger.
Really, if the evidence is there, the police have no choice but to charge him now, or there will be a huge outcry.

He is a witty and funny old fella, be interesting to hear what his opening comment was to Mr Plodd after the event.
To be fair he has probably been doing a good job still driving at 98 not out.
This is a vehicle orientated forum, so it's assumed we all love/enjoy driving.
I wonder how many of us will hand our Driver's Licence in without a grumble when the time comes.

Too true Mick Very difficult to contemplate a time that for many of us will be, inevitable.

I was recently faced with this as a very real possibility and it was staved off with the miraculous results of cataract surgery (which had been delayed due to added risks in my case).
