Unless you are lucky enough to be in a motorsport that datalogs your (cars) performance, ( and ALL this data is to make the car feel better FOR YOU TO DRIVE )
The only recourse we have at all is seat of the pants experience.

Thats where we feel most things that happen in a car first. Physical contact.

Call it what you like it lobs into the same ball park as gut reactions and first impressions.

I have a long, nearby hill that gives me a fairly accurate measure of how my Defender is performing. When everything is good, I know how many km/h the speed will drop from a fixed speed at the bottom.

All I have to do is take into account the air temperature; the humidity; the temperature of the engine, gearbox, transfer case and diff oils; the direction and velocity of the wind; whether I have a kayak or canoe on the rack and a couple of other variables and I can tell if there has been a drop off in performance.

Ever since I watched the ‘Doc’ on ‘Back To The Future’ I’ve been putting a banana skin in the tank with every fill up.

anyone know whats different about it other than it is 2 cents a litre dearer?
    Hello Incisor,

Hmmm fuel bought in Kingaroy... maybe they blend peanut oil into the mix. Or maybe pumpkin scone extracts.

    "don't you worry about!"

    Kind regards

Peanut oil would be a cheap way to bulk up the diesel.

If all they have is a bit of cleaner in them then most of the big oil companies already have stuff in them, or you can put a small does of CEM fuel cleaner each tank that makes them quieter also.

Banana skins and saw dust were used in diffs and gearboxes in used cars before slick 50 and moreys came along

What variety of banana performs best, Don?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
