Certainly is & the St Patricks day fires are as vivid as yesterday still for many here.

I saw a railway employee having a smoke along the line near tall grass today. So dangerous.

Was 46°C today. The change in the weather tomorrow will be critical as that’s when a fire will start. Especially with dry lightning.

Be interested to see how expensive repairs are going to be, over 100 separate failures across Adelaide tonight. Quote "damage to our equipment" and "extreme weather" being the most common reasons given for failure. Still 13K customers out at this point.

the wholesale price of power didnt change.

im guessing most of the individual issues are overheating transformers with the occasion tree down.
i dont think SA broke its peak demand record.

pic of the power generation in SA for the 24th.
not sure how low the wind got. i saw ~80MW at one point.

    More power outages in Melbourne.

33C at 6am as 8000 Melbournians wake up to no power
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I am more and more coming to the opinion nuclear power stations are the way of the future , our old system just can't cope, and the climate is not going to get cooler.

Blazing heat triggers emergency powers on energy use

Notice that SA is about 90% gas and diesel. Wind reported at 4% and I don't know what other is.( probably solar)

New Slogan "SA the Gaseous State."

I look at that info several times a day, just out of interest. It updates every 5 minutes in line with the national market.

After a while you get an idea of what looks 'normal' and what doesn't.

The brown coal output in Vic is down (visible) because 2 units are out for repairs / maintenance.

The really strange thing is the much reduced output of black coal generated power coming out of Queensland at the time. They have about the same coal generating capacity as NSW but regularly put more of this type of power into the grid than NSW.

There is no explanation in the OZ (where that graph is lifted from) of 'why' such a large component of generation is not being used when there is some sort of 'crisis'.

Can't they just turn all those big wind turbines to point and blow north and suck the cooler air up from Antartica and blow it across the country. Seems that'd be useful.

People who harp on endlessly about the failure of wind to look like coal are SAD. Wind power is variable, get over it.

    ............................

For people who want a better picture of the NEM in action, try this site:

    ELJM: NEM Regional Generation Summary

The most recent screenshot shows a fair amount of SA's electricity has been supplied by wind, better than shovelling coal 24/7.
