    What use is this?
    This is just useless.

On a day when Victorian coal plants dropped like flies, what worshipers of Old King Coal don't understand is that

WIND IS ONLY PART OF THE SYSTEM AND IT CURRENTLY DOESN'T RELY ONLY ON WIND.

Also your wonder rock is filthy, coal plants break down quite often, coal mining kills people with black lung and heavy metal poisoning, coal mines catch alight (Morwell, Pike River NZ etc) and that's apart from the fact that you don't believe the massive number of climate scientists on this planet that know it heats the planet. This isn't about winning traffic light drags. This is about not cacking your own nest.

Oh and apparently those new HELE plants loved by fossil heads everywhere are even less reliable than regular Victorian mud burners. That's because to gain their pathetic few percentage points of efficiency they have to be run hotter and at higher pressures. Exotic metal fittings crack more often. They stop working cos it's hot, baby.

Wind power is about GWH after GWH of cumulative energy generated without pollution, coal power is about **** you, I can afford to live where the smoke doesn't blow.

I watched energy minister D'Ambrosio give her media PR speech on the news last night. She claimed that there was no load shedding/black outs but rather there were controlled 'brown outs' instigated.

Too bad that she and her advisors didn't know or didn't care that a 'brown out' is merely a considerable drop in voltage which causes lights to dim - aka go brown - but not extinguish. 'Brown outs' will also cause damage to electric motors, fridges, freezers and air conditioners. If we did have 'brown outs' as she claimed will she now also accept and make good any damage caused by her so called "Brown Outs"? I don't think so.

It was just a pathetic stunt to divert everyone s attention from the load shedding/black out issue. A stunt which the attending media bought.

Many years back we woke up about 6am one morning to find lights were dull, fridge and freezer were groaning, so consequently I turned them straight off. I phoned Powercore to see what was going on and the chick said there is a "Brownout in your area, turn all appliances off to avoid damage". Too late, some were already damaged before we were even onto it.
To their credit Powercore covered the cost of repairs.

    Cheers, Mick.

Beeutey you reveal your apparent religious fervor.

If Hazelwood had not been closed there would have been plenty of reserve. Andrews increased the royalty until it became uneconomic to continue.

There is (oops was) such a thing as reserves to cater for outages.

Victorians have now seen the folly of their pursuit to 50% renewables. I hope they are happy in their brave new world.
Even Germany has not exceeded 20% and they have to buy coal power from Poland.

    Regards Philip A

FWIW: I'm one that doesn't actually believe the climate scientists! .. but that doesn't mean what you say doesn't make sense .. it sure does.
Read the article, and hidden as a byline down there is a comment that 3 of 8 generators in the Gippsland area were not generating.
On a day that had been known was going to have a considerable draw on the grid, to have 37% of that power generation capacity off line make no sense.

What's bleeding obvious is that coal isn't a way for future producers to produce energy.
Apart from the current government's push, the people that have the money to invest obviously don't want too, and see renewables as the future.
Anyone that doesn't understand that is fooling themselves.
Like the progression from horse and cart to ICE powered personal vehicles .. and moving further forward on that the likely progression from ICE to EV of whatever sort becomes the norm.

For the govt to artificially inflate the value of coal powered energy is typical short term thinking by a govt tied to it's business buddy roots.
Allow the market to determine where the future lies, without any favouritism, and I have no doubt that renewables is where it's at.

With all that said and done, I still don't trust the climate scientists! And you'd be better served not to blindly trust what they say too.
But to artificially hold onto the 'good ol days', is not only a retarded mindset, it is also to the detriment of society!

1 generator was down for scheduled maintenance.
1 generator broke a few days before, leaking tube.
not sure about the last time.

still better than wind which was operating at about 1% of nameplate capacity.

But seriously, whilst it was HOT, blackouts did not directly affect us, we are up in the Mallee for a few days, based at Wycheproof, for a good old fashioned Australia Day celebration.
We also do a bit of touring, and whilst the car read out showed 45C, inside the car was pretty good, and the motel A.C. wasn't subject to a blackout, so all was good. But I tell you what, we didn't do much walking around in what the locals said was 47C+. Inside the Pub was good too,....2 meals, a bottle of Pepperjack & 4 beers for $49!!!.....Can't beat that,....even made the heat bearable.
The Aussie Bush is a good place to be, hope you had a good Australia Day.
