If you are willing to pay for that water. The economics of piping water from the north make such a proposal simply unfeasible.
Perth has 2 desal. plants operating, without which, they say, they would have run out of water long before now. It's time for our brightest minds to focus on channeling the excess water from tropical areas to where its needed.

Wouldn't it be more economically feasable simply for people to move to the North of the country where there is still an abundance of water?![]()

That's the old argument. Yet they want to build a " fast train " from Melbourne to Brisbane. What would be the most costly, and which is more important? Having said that, desalinization plants make sense, the Federal Gov. should stump one up to supply water to the Murray Darling system. Drag water from the Brisbane river, into the Condamine then down to the Murray Darling system. They could recover costs by charging cotton growers and others for the water.

It's been done before, on a smaller scale. Engineer C Y O'Connor was lauded for the water pipeline from Perth to the goldfields. O'Connor committed suicide after completing what was regarded as one of Australia's greatest engineering feats. The reason for his suicide? multitudes of complaints about the costs. Just do it.

Good idea, Bob. Get a private sector syndicate to issue a prospectus, raise money, build the scheme and sell water at full cost recovery plus a profit for the shareholders.
Hold on. What is that agitated rumbling coming from the Farmer's Federation and the National Agrarian Socialist Party. Oh, farmers are unwilling to pay for the water. The government will have to provide free water. Well, that is then end of that scheme.

Our country's history is littered with great ideas, to help nature along; think cane toads, mynahs, rabbits et al. Will we never learn?

Yeah, I'm a dreamer. But nothing of any consequence has been built in this World by naysayers or negative people. If dreamers of this World threw their hands up at the first hurdle, we would still be living in caves. It can be done, just needs a collective will. And as for the farmers? just point out they can't do much without water. The Socialist Party? They will do as they are told. If the right people tell them
