I'm heading down there Sunday night for a couple of weeks holiday.
Thankfully I'm up on the central coast sector, so the fires shouldn't effect me.
The fires are bad again down there today from the 9 news app that I read this morning.

not much news footage on Taasie fires, but ABC ticker tape says there's a couple of bad ones in the tiers. Miena at the Great lakes is watch and alert. some of my favorite fishing destinations may be burn out.

Hi,
Smokey and 31 at the moment in Hobart. Wind has dropped and not as smokey as first thing this morning when visibility was down to about a km.
No doubt things will be much more unpleasant on the fire ground.
Cheers
My boss just got back from a week helping out. He said the fires are so big and access so bad that they are just trying to slow the fires down until rain or winter comes.
Evacuations on for a dozen or so localities. The teams are expecting to be working on the fires for a month or two. Edges not accessible, nor are the middles, except by chopper. Over 1000km of edges. West Coast 2 fires, Central Highlands 2 giant fires, Far south 1 biggish fire. 700,000 hectares involved so far. Quite a few roads closed in the fire areas.
Crews in from several states and NZ. Over a dozen choppers, two large air tankers.
The kitchen at State IMT is feeding 120 three times a day. More meals than a decent size pub. Then there are the lunches for field crews.
Most Stations have crew working out of area. Today most Stations also stood crews up on standby in their own stations.
Cooler day Sat, Sun, Mon. Warmer Tuesday again. Not much if any rain. Everything is dry. Smoke everywhere. Even in Hobart the visibility is only a k or two. Very dark at 4.00 pm this arvo.
Total fire ban from 0200 this morning (Friday) till 0200 on Monday. May go through to Wednesday.
Hi,
Frogs going nuts with soft gentle rain.
Cheers
