What really really gets up my hooter is many of the people awarded, have good jobs, are very well paid & choose & love what they do (thinking entertainers & sports here)
Seems the little silent Aussie battler who goes about their voluntary work etc never get nominated, but probably their boss does ) but if one has mates in high places it becomes "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" so they get on the gravy train for simply doing the above.
Did I read there were 49 pages of awardees??? Do you know anyone who fits the bill? I don't, but maybe it is because I lead a sheltered life & need to get out more.[bighmmm]
The British system of awards appears to be the same.

Furthermore, the dedicated volunteers get minor awards while politicians and senior public servants get lofty titles, for merely doing their well paid jobs.Quote:

Reading that with the cynical side of my brain, suggests to me it was written by an Arty Farty for Arty Farties & mates. Kylie got in but I understand she does not pay any tax in Australia nor live here so she would just scrape in going by that lot of guff.
She wouldn't be short of a bob or two & if you think she returns here to show she is a "caring Australian" then you'd have to have rocks in the noggin. She chucks in a couple of shows & calls it another something Tour & makes a heap of cash.
Magda Zubanski is in but for what reason? Pushing forward her agenda for Gay Marriage & being a well paid entertainer? Not sure where she lives or even pays "ATO rates".
Olivia Newton John doesn't reside here & apart from the fillum 'Grease' she also apparently went bust owing a heap of dosh to creditors with her Koala Blue calamity. Makes one feel very proud to be an Aussie. Not. I've lost count of how many times she has reportedly had a "Life threatening illness" but she is still with us so maybe it is just a red herring to keep her & her absconded to South America husband who took off with a lot of the proceeds out of Gaol/Jail .

Mark my words that it will become unpopular with the populace of this country one day & hopefully disappear or become the catalyst that changes it to fairer system. But then, who will check the motives of the Checker? The UK is traditionally/historically more "tolerant" when it comes to Gravy Trains I reckon & is expected..
