It's being part of the herd. Yawning is an exercise that puts you in a very vulnerable position, eyes closed, mouth wide open.

You yawn, other people see it and then they yawn to show that they are part of the same tribe and they are comfortable and safe being vulnerable around you and are showing they are part of the same tribe.

The water holds some of the gas in suspension, the chemicals that are the worst smelling so that it creates a different smell.

Spot on, JF. I find that quite often, when I'm with other people, they make me yawn!

Does water really go down the plug hole in opposite directions in the northern and southern hemispheres?

Yes it does, and it doesn't spin at all on the equator. There's a guy in Africa who makes a buck from tourists at the equator, he has a bowl arrangement that drains through a hole, he floats a leaf in it and pulls the plug. Only has to walk 20 meters or so either side of the equator and the leaf spins the opposite way, doesn't spin at all right on the line. Fascinating. Same in meteorology; low-pressure and high-pressure areas rotate in the opposite directions in the northern hemisphere vs southern. Coriolis effect.
