I heard a lady with a few younger kids refused to get on HMAS Choules yesterday as she could get a priority spot on choppers if needed due to her young kids. Reasons she did not get on ship was car, camping stuff and boat. Felt that was selfish as they are unlikely to be about to drive out for 3 weeks she and family are needing food and other emergency resources which I feel should be only for people with out opportunity to leave. Choices [bighmmm]

I listened to this & thought it was a very balanced view.

All the firefighting experts are saying these fires are unpredecented in their extent and ferocity, so I'll go with the actual experts thanks.
It's a bit like the residents who thought they could stay and defend their homes, but were then overwhelmed by the embers and spotting and had to flee, although some sadly didn't make it and died horrible deaths.
Those who did escape have mostly realised they were just wrong. If the trained firies can't stop these blazes, then how can blokes with hoses ? It just can't be done.
Time for the denialists to recognise reality bites and admit they were wrong.

To me they are simply "Sky Cranes" 'cos that is what they do, Towers, Water etc.

Are you saying that this bloke with over 50 years of "Hands On" firefighting experience is Not an Expert at what he does just because he doesn't blame "Climate change" But blames Poor "Management" for the intensity of these fires ???

I put it to you that Old Mate Brian that is the fire Chief at the Carrajung Heights brigade IS an EXPERT and that he DOES know EXACTLY what he is talking about and just because he doesn't put the blame solely on "Climate change" doesn't lessen his "Expertise" in combating fires one iota.

Many brigade chiefs really do have no idea, Fire experience gleaned over the past 50 years does not apply to cataclysmic fires that generate their own weather. There have been a few of these in Victoria but never before in NSW.

Not quite sure what you are on about - a command posting does not last forever like it does in Star Trek - an typical posting irrespective of whether it is command or not is about 2 years - it is all part of the officer development process and having command it is part of that development process for higher positions, not the end game - even three/four star positions are only for 2 to 3 years unless an extension is given.
