Ah! .. so, rash generalization is now considered a prediction!

When the prediction is for a 1° change in 30 years time, and that change ends up more like 0.3-0.4° .. this isn't taken into account? .. just the fact that the temperature went up.

The magnetic field issue is exactly the same issue. They knew it was moving, and it was expected to move. The amounts it moved weren't 'as expected'.

So your expectation of what a scientist is doesn't involve any form of accuracy on their part for their predictions then?
May as well just call the astrologers to come do it.

So it's going to be very interesting to read their scientific explanations when the worlds average temps drop over the next 30 years [tonguewink]

Not about climate change but to deny we're filling oceans with rubbish cutting down forests and have pushed many species to edge of extinction is hard to deny. I go to places now that used to be clean and are now the rubbish that's there is shocking. I'm talking of overseas here. We as species are changing the planet. Our kids will not grow up in same one we did. That's not to say humans won't adapt and survive but it will be a different planet from before.

The Guardian is tripe. It plays to an agenda that it sets for itself, and it has no relationship to reality. It has NO credibility whatsoever amongst journalists, and no decent writer will ever post to it.

Hmm, IMO The Guardian is a far more credible news source than most all other sources in Oz, and far and away more credible than any News Ltd paper or website.

I think you'll find that Weather, SOI (Southern Oscillation Index/El Nino) and Hurricane Track predictions are all "models", you're not going to ignore those too?

Did you read the facts in the story before you reacted? It showed that the NSW Government authorities have INCREASED the amount of hazard reduction done by the NPWS and other departments and then exceeded their targets. That totally destroys the argument the Greens have prevented hazard reduction - its just WRONG!
Please get some facts before you rave on.

Personally, two families of relatives near Lismore and Coffs were forced to evacuate overnight because of big fires burning near their houses. My best friend is right now gathered with neighbours to defend their houses west of Coffs, in my home valley, while their families have moved to safety. My families past property, which they owned for a century, might burn today.
So don't try to tell me how to feel about this - this is personal.

I think those who play down the seriousness of these fires, particularly conservative politicians and climate deniers, are insulting the memories of the people who have died and also the people who have lost their homes or properties. They are insulting them. They should be ashamed.

I'm pretty patient, but I've run out of patience with their selfish behavior.

Why does a newspaper need to be profitable? Why not break even as a news service?
In fact if it’s not profit making I trust it more as a news source.
The Guardian is very balanced in its reporting IMO.

Anyone who believes the cause and effect of climate change is just natural selection should be ashamed of themselves too.
