yes but not in the way you think. africia did used to be the bread basket of the romans but that continued after the empire fell.

the roman empire collapsed due to (among other things) mass migration from germanic "barbarians". they were migrating due to climate change and the huns.

For sure that is all true but does not account for the current rate of change which is unprecedented in earth's history.

I'd refer you to my earlier post about the new Ice Age theory, the effect of CO2 on the Earth's long term climate cycles and John Gribbin's "The Climatic Threat". In short, the two theories are not incompatible. And NASA's website pretty clearly does state that global warming is human-driven:

'Successful' civilisation for any length of time (decades, centuries) will lead to higher birth rates and lower death rates, which lead to much higher populations living in 'civilised' areas.

Individuals in these civilised, population increasing areas will have expectations of a standard of living that may not be able to be met with a somewhat constant natural supply of resources.

The resources in these areas (rainfall, etc) don't automatically change in line with the population growth so a problem is created.

I'd suggest that population growth has caused a lot of problems in the past and does today.
