I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

The people are marching in the streets, in legitimate protest. No over the top crazy stuff, just legitimate protest. Time to march on Canberra.

Yes lets march on Canberra and demand the end of subsidies for wind farms and solar and the government finance cheap reliable base load power by guaranteeing finance for some new HELE coal power stations, like the rest of the World are building.

Some raddled inner city gereenies do not a democracy make.

Lets ask for the removal of ALL subsidies, not just renewables. $29Bn/pa in Australia, mainly for fossil fuels. "The IMF estimates that annual energy subsidies in Australia total $29 billion, representing 2.3 per cent of Australian GDP. On a per capita basis, Australian fossil fuel subsidies amount to $1,198 per person."
"If fossil fuels had been priced appropriately, global carbon emissions would be reduced by 28 per cent. Significantly, effective fossil pricing would also lead to a decrease in air pollution deaths by up to 46 per cent. The elimination of fossil fuel subsidies would also increase global government revenues by 3.8 per cent of GDP."

Global fossil fuel subsidies reach $5.2 trillion, and $29 billion in Australia | RenewEconomy

"Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar will receive subsidies of up to $2.8 billion a year up to 2030 to ensure Australia reaches its Renewable Energy Target, according to new research."
Renewable energy subsidies to top $2.8b a year up to 2030

Why in the hell should anyone get subsidies? They are a business & if they cannot make it pay they should pack it in. Subsidies only make them fat & lazy & restrict thinking to stand on their own two feet.

Now you will tell me it is not as simple as all that.

Many, including myself, here have never debated that the climate is changing, nor warming .. or even getting extreme in it's heat.
Some of us do question their definition of extreme heat tho .. in that one or two 40°C days and it's the end of the world or something.
As a kid tho I remember what seemed like an eternity high 30 - 40 degree days running around in things and playing under the sprinkler.
Was never called extreme back then .. why all of a sudden?

    This!
I'd prefer to see businesses planning power generation on a more level playing field.
Have to admit I know nothing of the ins and outs of how business plays politics for handouts, but even a single cent handed out to any of them should be dropped.
Many tech/engineering types all over the globe reckon that renewables cost less per Watt generated .. and if this is true, then for sure it should be the way forward.

Once funds allow me, I have plans for a couple of wind generators and some solar for my recently built shed too .. and then eventually some battery capacity too.
Not so much for the warm fuzzy feeling tho .. more so for the geeky-techy learning experience it'll give me .. and something to play around with.

I'm as 'anti coal power' as much as the next greenie type .. but it has to be a gradual withdrawal as the infrastructure ages .. not just a wholesale disruption of current systems.
    Arthur.
