A senior bureaucrat in the old Irrigation and Water Supply Commission told me at a heavy plant seminar that at least two dams in Qld. were built against the Dept's advice. These dams were built not to catch water but to catch votes in marginal electorates.
BIL was a surveyor with the State Gov many moons ago. They did a lot of work identifying possible dam sites. The site of the dam outside Gympie, (Traveston) was around 14 or 15 down the list of suitable sites. Too shallow and insufficient catchment size/rainfall history for serious consideration.
One particular State government wasted tens of millions of taxpayer dollars on the proposal to build it, mainly because it was in an electorate where they would never get votes.

Learned an interesting thing from my Pest bloke yesterday. He is an ex military helicopter pilot and has his own Bell.

He has been on a contract with Townsville Council for the last 9 days shooting crocs from the helicopter.

Apparently they shoot in two hour shifts using imported Tungsten tipped bullets to penetrate the skulls.

They have a gun rest on the outside of the helicopter and sit in a sling. he mentioned a something 6.5 as the weapon.
He reckons the biggest problem now is snakes.

    Regards Philip A

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Must be filling up the artesian basin, as well. Interesting to see what the ground water estimations are now.

RAFFLE; Fundraiser for NQ flood victims.
These fundraisers are wonderful showcases of our spirit. But exactly where is the money going? I need to know the end result before I donate.

Fair question Bob, I thought you knew as you acknowledged the OP.

    North Queensland floods.

At this polnt in time, I've not heard of any affected AULRO members, but that could be down to dodgy comms or having higher priorities than flapping their cybergums here.

If any subscribers need a hand, or you know of any subscribers in that boat, please let me know.

It’s a shame the crocs are being shot......but I guess there isn’t any other solution.
