My father had a wedge tailed eagle as a pet for many years, she was very tame.

She used to have leather jesses, and they were attached to a 2.5M dog chain that went onto a running line, with a perch at one end of the line.

One day,at dusk the line broke, and she flew across the power lines across the road, the chain hung down, and in a cloud of sparks was dragged over the power lines. The Eagle flew onto the roof of the house across the road. The power had now tripped out for the street as well.We found pieces of melted dog chain on the footpath.

The Eagle stayed on the roof, and once it was dark,my father climbed onto the roof and grabbed the remaining part of the chain and recovered her.Eagles won't fly in the dark, because they can't see.

That bird was a fantastic pet,she would chase a ball thrown for her,in much the same way a dog does.

What a magnificent creature for a pet.
