    Woe is me!

This morning, after a sleepless night and driving in to town leaving here at 0630, I was diagnosed with shingles.

This is the second time, so I know what is likely to happen - I still have almost continuous severe pain from the last episode eighteen years ago.

And yes, I was vaccinated two years ago against shingles.

I am on an antiviral, which may prevent continuing pain. It didn't last time.

Among the complications are that I cannot visit my sister, who is in a nursing home, as I am infectious.

    Very, very, depressing.

Shingles is super nasty, I really feel for you.
Any idea where you got it, or how long recovery will take?
Have you, or anyone around you, had chickenpox?

That's real bad news John, shingles is the pits!

Never had it myself but my brother-in-law suffered, it's not nice...

Hey John, sending you all best wishes. I hope you can shake it and it doesn't stick around too long.

I had very mild Shingles for a few weeks late last year after having been vaccinated against it a few months earlier. The virus stays in the body from childhood chicken pox which I had. Mine only got as far as a light rash and very mild chest pain, presumably stopped from advancing by the recent vaccination. A friend whose bad dose lasted around 12 months had urged me to get vaccinated and I was very pleased that he did.

Sorry to hear that john, how long is it contagious for and are you asked not to go to nursing home as they are more susceptible?
